Dan Fitzgerald PhD was recently awarded the prestigious Haldane Prize from the British Ecology Society. Dr. Kirk Winemiller was Dan’s major advisor.
On March 29, the Aquatic Ecology Lab said good-bye to Sonia Huckembeck who returns to Brazil to complete her dissertation and degree at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande. Sonia is researching the trophic ecology of frog communities in wetlands of southern Brazil. He major advisor is Dr. Alexandre Garcia, longtime collaborator of the lab.
Dr. Eduardo Cunha joined the Aquatic Ecology Lab on March 1, 2018 as a postdoc investigating the ecology of river–floodplain ecosystems. He is assisting with development of individual-based models of fish population and food web dynamics of fluvial ecosystems in response to scenarios of hydrology and temperature. Eduardo received his PhD from the Universidade Estuadual de Maringá in Brazil where he studied community ecology in aquatic habitats of the Paraná River floodplain. During 2016, he spent one year in the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences as a… Read More →
The Aquatic Ecology Lab welcomed two doctoral students from Brazil. Laísa Wociechoski Cavalheiro, a PhD student in the Graduate Program in Animal Ecology– Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, arrived to College Station on September 1 and will return to Brazil on January 15 next year. Laísa is doing her dissertation research on the community ecology of stream fishes in the Rio Uruguay Basin in southern Brazil. Sonia Huckembeck arrived to College Station on October 2 and will return home at the end of March next… Read More →
The Aquatic Ecology Lab is hosting two researchers from the Universidade Federal do Pará in Belem, Brazil. Dr. Luicano Montag arrived in June and will spend a sabbatical year at Texas A&M. During his visit, Dr. Montag will give seminars, collaborate on research on the community ecology of Amazonian stream fishes, and attend scientific conferences. Dr. Montag’s doctoral student Tiago Begot also arrived in June and will spend several months with the lab. Tiago’s research is focused on the influence of different land uses on patterns of taxonomic… Read More →
